Ian Plaskett is a senior safeguarding and protection professional with more than 23 years’ experience within safeguarding, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), accountability to affected populations (AAP), gender and child protection sectors globally. He has been working as a consultant since January 2020 after a successful career working for UNICEF and international non-governmental organisations internationally.
Since starting as a consultant, he has supported organisations and inter-agency mechanisms with PSEA risk assessments, PSEA risk mitigation action planning, PSEA strategic evaluations, PSEA community communication strategies, developing Standard Operating Procedures for community-based complaints mechanisms (SOPs-CBCMs) and supporting organisations with capacity-building, training and investigations.
He is a CHS Alliance approved investigators trainer and qualified investigator. His other affiliations are as a Justice Rapid Response Rostered Expert (Investigating International Crimes Against Children), UK Government Rostered Expert (Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict and Gender, Conflict and Stability), Global Inter-Agency Security Forum Affiliate, member of the International Association of Professionals in Humanitarian Assistance and Protection (PHAP).
He has strong international development, humanitarian and conflict experience – this spanning Africa, the Middle East, Caribbean, Central, South and South East Asia, at subnational, country, regional and HQ levels. In addition to his safeguarding expertise, he is also highly skilled in gender, child rights, education, disability, peacebuilding and child protection programming areas.
