Stephanie Delaney is a child protection practitioner with more than 20 years’ experience, over 15 years of which have been based overseas. Her particular focus is on child protection response mechanisms and services, and safeguarding. She has expertise working in Asia, MENA and South East Europe, and has an understanding of the history, challenges and strengths of operating environments and situation for children in those regions.
Stephanie has masters’ degrees in social work (MSW) and international child welfare (MA) plus a postgraduate qualification in systemic practice (family therapy). These provide a strong theoretical basis to her safeguarding work. She adopts a pragmatic approach, aiming to support stakeholders to find contextually relevant solutions which can be implemented in practice. She is particularly interested in identifying ways in which children can be included in safeguarding efforts to increase their own protection (for example see Sticks and Stones and Speak Out- Be Protected).
Stephanie has worked with a wide range of organisations including UN agencies, INGOs, NGOs, governments and communities on safeguarding initiatives. Her extensive safeguarding experience includes undertaking assessments of need ; evaluations of service and safeguarding policies / practices; developing policies and procedures ; and designing and delivering appropriate capacity building initiatives. She has also supported the roll-out and implementation of safeguarding procedures. Stephanie has worked with international law enforcement agencies and embassies regarding the investigation of safeguarding concerns.
