This report was commissioned by USAID/Ethiopia and Social Impact, Inc.’s Ethiopia Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Service (EPMES) Activity to map presents the magnitude of various forms of GBV in Ethiopia, the policies pertaining to the practices, their effectiveness, and the impact GBV has on development work. The review samples were peer-reviewed articles, credible government and university documents, impact evaluations, and rigorous analyses by aid organizations related to violence committed against women and girls.

The report concluded that domestic violence, sexual violence, child marriage and circumcision to be most prevalent gender based violence types. The report concludes that social norms that tolerate violence against women and girls and weak enforcement the law as major gaps needing more robust and evidence based interventions. These conclusions resonate with the challenges for organizations while implementing SEAH initiatives.
